How a Small Business Owner Cut Her Video Costs by 90% (Without Hiring an Editor)

A simple AI tool is quietly changing how solo creators and small businesses make explainer videos — no design skills required.

I used to spend $200–$400 every time I needed a whiteboard-style explainer video for my shop. Freelancers were slow, revisions took days, and half the time the final video still didn't match what I had in my head.

A friend who runs a small online course sent me a tool she'd started using instead: InstaDoodle. I was skeptical — most "AI video" tools I'd tried before looked cheap or took longer to learn than just hiring someone.

This one was different. You type what you want, and it builds an animated whiteboard-style video around it — characters, drawings, transitions, all generated automatically. My first video (a 45-second product explainer) took about 20 minutes, most of which was me tweaking the script.

What actually surprised me:

No software to install — runs in the browser.
Over 1,000 doodle elements/characters, so it doesn't feel generic.
I've made 6 videos so far for what one freelance video used to cost me.

It's not going to replace a Hollywood production team, and text-heavy or highly technical explainers still take some trial and error to get right. But for the kind of quick, engaging explainer or promo video most small businesses and creators actually need, it's the first "AI video" tool I've used that I'd actually recommend.

They're currently running a launch discount (I paid $37 for lifetime access — no idea how long that lasts).
